Bluffside Farm, located on Lake Memphremagog in Newport, is a 129-acre farm reimagined by the community. Purchased in 2015 by the Vermont Land Trust (VLT), the farm has been open to the public for recreation, wetland restoration, community gardening, and used as a natural classroom ever since.
One of the largest undeveloped properties in Newport, it sat between two recreational paths when purchased by the VLT. These two paths would span seven miles from downtown Newport to the Canadian border if they were connected.
In the summer of 2020, work began on constructing a mile of ADA-accessible trail across the Bluffside Farm, including a boardwalk and bridge over Scott’s Cove on Lake Memphremagog. The project was completed in September 2021 and created a mile of walking, bike, wheelchair-accessible, ski, and running trail. With the connection of the recreation paths to the north and south of the Farm, VLT created a seven-mile car-free experience for visitors.
