In 2023, a half-mile universally accessible trail was completed in the heart of Hubbard Park, a 200-acre mostly forested public land behind the state capitol. Built by Timber & Stone of East Montpelier with the support of park staff and the Montpelier Conservation Corps, the trail meanders from the new shelter to the tower, providing people of all physical abilities the opportunity to enjoy the land. The path is part of a network of seven miles of trails managed within the park that connects with more than a hundred miles of walking, skiing, mountain bike, and snowshoe trails, including nearly a dozen managed by East Montpelier Trails and the 90-mile Cross-Vermont Trails. Nearby North Branch Nature Center hosts a second fully accessible trail. Funding from the Recreation Trails Program (RTP) and the City of Montpelier supported the project.
