SUMMARY:Vermont Trail System Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Over the past 18 months\, the Vermont Department of Forests\, Parks\, and Recreation\, the Vermont Trails & Greenways Council\, and a statewide project advisory committee have been working to update and modernize the Vermont Trail System (VTS). Our team has drafted a set of Vermont-specific Best Management Practices (BMPs) to guide trail planning & design\, trail construction\, trail maintenance\, trail user management\, and trail administration and an updated structure for the VTS\, including the criteria to apply\, the application process\, member benefits\, and review/accountability of members. This will be a resource for trail managers across the state in trail management\, including in applying for grants\, understanding permitting\, and receiving technical support. \nNow that we have draft update\, we are eager to hear feedback from trail managers – whether municipal or non-profit. Please join us for a trail manager webinar on August 31 from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM. We will begin with an overview about the proposed changes to the structure\, but the majority of the time will be for you to let us know what about the potential new VTS structure will and won’t work for you and your trail organization. Your input is critical to ensuring the modernized system is realistically implementable\, sets organizations up for success\, and ultimately supports the improvement and sustainability of Vermont’s trails. SUMMARY:Trail Assessment & Maintenance Workshop - Led by GMC for Trail Managers
DESCRIPTION:Join Lorne Currier\, Green Mountain Club Volunteer & Education Coordinator\, for a hands-on workshop focused on hiking trail assessment and maintenance. Participants will learn practical skills in tread and corridor maintenance\, sustainable trail design\, drainage\, trail structures\, blazing and signage\, tool use\, volunteer management\, and user stewardship. \nOpen to professional and volunteer trail managers from Central Vermont and beyond\, this workshop is a great opportunity to build technical trail skills while connecting with fellow trail stewards.
